Sony’s PSP supports podcasting

Today I downloaded the new 2.60 firmware for my PSP and saw that now under “Network” in the home menu I have a new option called “RSS Channel”.

PSP's rss feed option

I added Papenoo’s feed to it but no articles were showing. By carefully reading Sony’s dedicated website I realized that in fact this new option was only for podcasts with the following limitations:

# The PSP(TM) system can play audio content in MP3 and MP4 (AAC) formats.
# Audio content will be available for streaming playback only. Depending on the Internet connection and content file size, the audio stream may pause or stop during playback.

Not bad, isn’t it? It’s really nice for those who don’t have a big memory stick but still want to listen to podcasts. Of course I’d like to be abble to download the mp3 file because there’s not always a Wifi connection available at each place I’m staying. Pehaps this is already on the roadmap for a next update. And if Sony could add support for online video content too I’d be more than happy.
