Les Blogs 2.0 days 2

Man! That was a day… I didn’ know when I asked on my day 1 review “Let’s see if we can do better tomorrow…” that we’d have such an event. I didn’t blog earlier because I wanted to write only after a day or two to be sure my writings were based on facts and not on emotions.

Les Blogs 2.0 days 1

Les ZzzzzWhile all the others listeners (and sleepers) already blogged about it during the whole day I’m just posting my comments tonight.

I could tell you that it’s because I do respect speakers and that I was really listening what everyone said but it’d just be a big lie.
I didn’t blog earlier because when I wanted to do it, the wifi was down (or weefee if you want to say it in french) and when it was up again, my battery just died.
Note for tomorrow: sit next to the plugs…

So what did you miss?

  • Bloggers blogging about other bloggers who are talking about blogs… Weird!
  • People who were using Skype, Azureus, MSN or network sniffers and complaining about the wifi going down.
  • Some nice IRC sessions.

Let’s see if we can do better tomorrow…

Miss France 2006 and her blog

Miss France 2006Yesterday evening was the election of Miss France 2006. The winner is Alexandra Rosenfeld and she’s coming from the south of France.

What’s interesting is that Miss France has her own blog under the nickname of pancakes. It’s written in french (if we can call this french :)) and it has a lot of pictures of her and her friends. Sadly, the blog hasn’t be updated since April.

Her blog is hosted by skyblog, the major blog provider in France. They claim to have more than 3 million blogs.

Edit: It seems that the blogs have been disabled. I don’t know if it’s by their owner or if it’s censorship by skyblog. We’re looking for archieved versions.

Sushi party…

Franck & MattNot really, but this evening we had dinner with Matt. He’s in Paris to attend Les Blogs 2.0 conference. We had first a drink in a nice pub in Paris, then we went to have some sushis at a restaurant called Foujita. I told him that’s the place where you can have the best sushis I’ve ever eat. I don’t know if he agrees but at least he was really polite :D

We spent then the evening talking about blogs, podcasts, php programmation, etc… Here are some topics we discussed about:

  • Blogbridge, the best aggregator in my opinion. It’s opensource, in java (nobody’s perfect) and can synchronize between different locations.
  • The fact that on Yahoo Maps the URL changes each time you do a zoom or move the map.
  • Orbitz and Kayak. 2 airfaire search engines.
  • Database schema of Wordpress.com and how indexes can really hep you.
  • Why is there no other blog software developer speaking on Monday and Tuesday at a conference focused on blogging except Mena from Six Apart?
  • And Papenoo of course.

If I forgot something Matt, feel free to complete…
Thanks for the evening, it’s was really nice talking with you.

etribes Life (beta)

etribes Life logoToday I had a chance to sign up on etribes Life beta version.
The site describes itself as:

etribes Life is a FREE service from etribes that offers a wealth of simple, useful and fun personal publishing features that anyone can use. The service is designed to help you take your life online, hence the name.

etribes Life frontdoor pictureetribes Life enables you to publish your news, ideas, photos, events, adverts etc. onto the web, quickly and easily, without any technical knowledge. Whether you want a website, a blog, a personal profile, a photo album, a calendar or simply an advert - etribes Life provides you with a personal web-space that you can meet your needs.

By signing up for your account, you create your own website, publish your content and tell your friends. It’s as simple as that!

I played a little bit with the admin tool but at the moment it’s pretty empty. The user interface is exactly the same as the default one in Drupal. This is normal since it’s the tool they are using to build this new service.

a sample post

On Tuesday 6th December, etribes is officially launching the 1st beta version of etribes Life. If you want to better know the product and perhaps see some exclusive features, you could join them at the party they are organising after Les Blogs 2.0 conference.

Business Cards

We received today our business cards. We were a bit in a rush to get them since we are in Christmas season and that all printing offices are really busy. In order to have them faster, I decided to go for digital printing instead of offset printing and we choosed to print only 200 of them. In addition of that, because digital printing is less precise, I had to change a little bit the design and added a security of 3 millimeters at the 4 sides instead of the usual 1 millimeter.

The good news is, hey, we can call them collectors now !!! If you are next week at Les Blogs 2.0 conference in Paris why not try to get one and know Papenoo better…

Sony’s PSP supports podcasting

Today I downloaded the new 2.60 firmware for my PSP and saw that now under “Network” in the home menu I have a new option called “RSS Channel”.

PSP's rss feed option

I added Papenoo’s feed to it but no articles were showing. By carefully reading Sony’s dedicated website I realized that in fact this new option was only for podcasts with the following limitations:

# The PSP(TM) system can play audio content in MP3 and MP4 (AAC) formats.
# Audio content will be available for streaming playback only. Depending on the Internet connection and content file size, the audio stream may pause or stop during playback.

Not bad, isn’t it? It’s really nice for those who don’t have a big memory stick but still want to listen to podcasts. Of course I’d like to be abble to download the mp3 file because there’s not always a Wifi connection available at each place I’m staying. Pehaps this is already on the roadmap for a next update. And if Sony could add support for online video content too I’d be more than happy.

Our brand new logo

We are really proud to show you our logo.
As you can see it, the design has be inspired by waves which will remind everyone the Papenoo’s name.

Papenoo's logo

We hope you do like it as much as we do.

Papenoo’s Web 2.0 bingo

What is Papenoo? What is this blog for?
Good question…
In fact Papenoo is the name of the beach where I’ve learnt to surf… I thought it’d be nice to have a domain name which would remind me of this.

Today I’ll show you our Web 2.0 bingo

Our Web 2.0 bingo

To win, we should have a “too-candid blog” or “screencasts” with “big input boxes”… Which one will be easier? I don’t know

More hints will follow…
